Gardening

We have long prided ourselves on our gardens and groundskeeping. For many years, a team volunteers kept our gardens in constant beautiful state with freshly groomed flowers and damp soil. Those days, unfortunately, have since passed. Today our flowers are still nicely-arranged and well-maintained, but our gardens no longer receive the care they once had.

Our gardening process usually begins on Earth Day when we invited a group of students and educators from the high school to come rake leaves, spread mulch, clean up yard debris and branches, and plant new flowers for the coming season. After that the flowers are routinely watered by a paid contractor. Due to lack of time and a limited staff, feadheading, weeding, and general maintenance of our flower beds has fallen off. We do what we can, but we still need help if we want to match the quality of our predecessors' work.

Tending to our gardens is an activity for anyone. Although we would never turn down donated plants, we purchase new annuals and perennials every year. We have rakes, hoes, trowels, and just about anything else a gardening could wish for to keep our flowers healthy and happy.
